Position Overview: We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Global Sanctions Lead Counsel to join our legal team. Based in London, this role will involve managing and overseeing our global sanctions compliance program, ensuring adherence to all applicable regulations and mitigating related risks.
Responsibilities:
  • Lead and manage the global sanctions compliance program, ensuring adherence to international sanctions laws and regulations.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies and procedures to ensure compliance with sanctions requirements.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments and identify potential sanctions exposure across all business operations.
  • Advise senior management and business units on sanctions-related matters and provide actionable recommendations.
  • Monitor and analyze regulatory developments related to sanctions and ensure timely updates to compliance programs.
  • Oversee and conduct sanctions screening and due diligence for customers, transactions, and business partners.
  • Investigate and respond to potential sanctions violations, collaborating with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to enhance awareness and understanding of sanctions compliance within the organization.
  • Coordinate with regulatory authorities and manage communications related to sanctions compliance.
  • Prepare and present reports on the status and effectiveness of the sanctions compliance program to senior management.
Qualifications:
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree from a recognized institution.
  • Extensive experience in sanctions compliance, preferably in the fintech, banking, or financial services industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of international sanctions laws and regulations, including those administered by OFAC, EU, and UN.
  • Proven track record of managing and leading sanctions compliance programs and teams.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively convey legal concepts to non-legal stakeholders.
  • High level of integrity, ethical standards, and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in the UK.
